III. Beyonder

xlii.             Beyonder

BEYONDER

Opaque waves threw a grain of light

Onto the vacant shore of sight.

Saunterer touched it in the dark

And on his heart was burnt the mark,

        BEYONDER!

Upon that portless beach he fell

And raised his head and beheld hell.

At once that song which angels sung

Escaped his mouth in flaming tongue,

        BEYONDER!

In crystal homes though it was late,

Cold words and songs mocked his soul’s state;

Ahead, a moondust path grew high,

And from his pain escaped a sigh,

        BEYONDER!

“Chase not that Way!” the blind man said,

“Light fills the city overhead;

The thoughts of Truth are deep and wide!”

And loud the flaming voice replied,

        BEYONDER!

“Come here,” the lady said, and drown

Thy pain with me.  Please take me down!”

Hot tears dripped off his frozen cheek

And from his heart she heard love speak,

        BEYONDER!

“Beware the narrow path you take!

The crystal dreams we shared shall break!”

This was his brothers’ last adieu.

A voice replied, known long but new,

        BEYONDER!

Aimed towards Heaven he ran from night,

Cursing his fate to embrace life.

Above the stars and sky he went

And with each breath this word was sent:

        BEYONDER!

Outside the pearl gate was found

A lifeless traveler on the ground.

Strapped to his back a wooden sign

Stained with red blood bore the design,

        BEYONDER!

The King ran out to meet this boy;

“Enter into my peace and joy!”

Down on the earth, alone and gray,

The deaf men could hear angels say

        BEYONDER!

Christmas Dresses

What pretty dresses are you wearing?

Don’t believe that I’m uncaring.

When the night falls, my tears begin.

Our love’s eternal, and therein

Our prayers are clever, to some extent—

And only you three know what I meant.

This magic’s yours, it seems to me—

What Autumn redness left in this tree;

And faith reforms the strongest reason

For snow to bring our favorite season.

Love’s life’s strongest quality,

And beauty’s like astronomy—

Your love surpasses time and space.

(Everything I promised will soon take place.)

Visions will light story time

With hopes and questions all sublime.

And these days we shall revise

With songs that make the future rise.

These are my wordless prayers:

can you see them burning in me

like Binary Stars??

Please hold them in your hands

Like your so lovely so lovely

Everlasting Flowers

A Lovely Lovely Lily

Eternities, eons and epochs flower.

And you shall have peace.  With me,

I hold a lily.

Come listen.  Draw closer and closer—

Echoes foreswore, you now foresee…

Behold Peace as king in every color:

For you shall have peace with me.

And wisdom stands with him, for she

Is with him always, and she

Waved each stream, planted every tree.

I hold a lily, a lovely lily.

Wisdom’s lively ways are pleasant, her

Paths are also flights of the honeybee

As it were—sweetly appeared, all musically.

You shall have peace with me.

You shall have peace with me.

Mark

We weep within our soul

A vision of a father

Who, like a dark storm cloud,

Holds Melissa his wife,

Her all-branching lightenings.

—And within their heart-embraces,

Their sweet infant Isla Rose—

Falls asleep like Springtime rains/

U n d r e a m t  of L o v e,

In the springtime wind the trees are stirred.

. . .gracious love, merciful grace…

. . .he was a beautiful boy.

The sky, all the clouds thereof,

(And beside the brook: one day-praising bird),

Were all this  U n d r e a m t  of Love,

And then, these—Other worlds to Prove.

This is something you will always chase, face…

Only when you’ve

Graciously loved merciful grace.

The springtime wind re-placed, restirred—

. All Motionlessness, in sound, was moved!

Listen! discern, retrace

All this  U n d r e a m t  of Love . . .

Love forever your Undreamt of  L o v e

Again, she moved. . . and you heard,

From high above, word for word,

Merciful grace—

. . .

Somehow breath became God’s beautiful face.

xlviii.            She Does What She Does

She Does What She Does, , ,

Could your heart count their summer’s

Flowers?  It was the number of eternity;

And their number was a universe of galaxies…

As if the sky today, with all

Her bright and dark unweaving winds, was

All fiery trees and falling, golden leaves.

As though the sky tonight, where Orion

Caused or seemed to cause meteors

To rain down (from one heaven

To another heaven)… was only heaven, too.

Because this is something you always knew:

Autumn turns the world into an untold

Place, and she can only do what she loves

To do; and what she always does, she does.

Ballad Moon

You were her first dream.

She dreamed that you

Were her every dream—

She knew you were

Her Star before she knew

What a dream her

Star was.  You’re still

Her soule Star,

Her high lifelong every-

Thing, and her

Heart loves this promise,

O her heart

Loves this promise proved

By fire, loves

These perfect signs, these splendid

Nights and days, these

Bright dreams and brilliant

Daydreams—bright

Dreams about the Sun,

And daydreams

About the Moon.  Remind

Us all about

Sunlight in the heaven

Of…moonlight

In the heaven of

Her glowing within

Even our night—agleam with

Dazzling light!—Even

Her face and eyes were filled

With light—her

Smiling all within

Her lover’s smile!

You you Were were Her her Star Star

Her her Heart heart Loves loves

These these Bright bright Dreams daydreams

About about Sunlight moonlight

In within Even even Her her Smiling smile!

l.            Crowns

Crowns

Do you know you always wear a crown?

Is every day and night of life an altered

crown, a crown of splendor?  The night

sky wears a breathtaking crown of stars.

Do you wear a crown of leaves, or

a crown of light?  When abundance crowns

the year, do you sleep in peach shade?

Like me, you have inherited the pure

gold brightness of the suns.  Have you worn

the crown of glory itself? the lovers crown

Of pure compassion?  Have you ever worn

The crown of a child’s honor?  And have

you worn the dark crown of an accuser’s

condemnation? …Or a crown of thorns,

a crown of total blackness?  Have you ever

kissed the painted crown of Vashti?  Or yet

received the crown promised by the Lord?

the victor’s crown?  the crown of knowledge?

Who has crowned you crowned with snow

the mountains.  And after grief, joy

will be your crown—you simply cannot

count the jewels, the stars, or the flowers!

li.            New Creation

New Creation

This looks like

Me smiling at you

Smiling at me…

This feels like

A single flame of fire

In our hearts…

This sounds so silent,

Like a tongue of flame

So silent to listen to

That as you can hear

The meanings of the motions in

Space—then everything within it—

This will taste like

One sweet, small book:

Written in Heaven…

This is what

Is revealed:

To first exist

As a holy ring of Holy light

In the womb of what

Shall become

Infinitude…

And, now, what does this sound like now?

You’ve been listening all along…

lii.            Hope

 h  o  p  e

Hope walks all day; she can shake hands

All day, and sometimes she’s quiet until you

Introduce yourself.  Sometimes she sits

And reads or writes all day—

And if you shun her, brightly and darkly

Hope endures.  Hope can pray all day.

And hope can stand all night in the rain.

If she turns to the right, that’s good, and

If she turns to the left.

If you disregard her eternal power of

Dialogical grace, then hope always lets

You recapture the vision of the futures beauty.

Hope tried to catch you, and you can catch

Hope as easily as the earth catches each season,

As each season fills the world with love

In its own way.

Adi Jane

Oh, Adalyn, with smile and heart so sweet,

On you our Lord gently bestows

The blessing of the lovely snows.

Your love I shall always entreat

Until our lives finally complete

What it is, love knows,

How it is life grows…

With every heartbeat we repeat

…On you our Lord gently bestows

Bright mornings; come strawberries, come spring—

…Come first this blessing of the lovely snows;

Come delight, hail Mary, come joy, come sing!...

Space is so gracious | on the prairie!

Sing!  Grace is so spacious | in January!
